“Be silent, and come out of this man!” The evil spirit shook the man violently and, with a loud shriek, came out of him.
All the people were astonished, and they wondered, “What is this? With what authority he preaches!
He even gives orders to evil spirits and they obey him!” And Jesus’ fame spread throughout all the country of Galilee.
REFLECTION:
Authority is very much sought after in the world to have power and control over people and situations.
Most politicians use their authority to enrich themselves and exercise power to influence others in their favor.
Some parents use their authority over their children to follow their decisions,
which in general are for the good of the children themselves. There are two consequences in the exercise of authority:
either to dominate or to liberate. Jesus in the gospel shows us the proper use of authority.
He liberates people from ignorance of the truth, from slavery to evil spirits.
How do we exercise the responsibility entrusted to us?
Is it to dominate others or liberate them from falsehood so that they come to the truth of our faith,
to be able to live a truly Christian life?
