the Helper will not come to you. But if I go away, I will send him to you, and when he comes,
he will vindicate the truth before a sinful world; and he will vindicate the paths of righteousness and justice.
What is the world’s sin, in regard to me? Disbelief. What is the path of righteousness?
It is the path I walk, by which I go to the Father; and you shall see me no more.
What is the path of justice? It is the path on which the prince of this world will always stand condemned.
REFLECTION:
So now the actual persecutions begin,
the antagonism towards the message of Jesus bursts out
in acts of hatred and violence towards Paul and the rest of the apostolic band.
We know, of course, how this will all end for the disciples.
Each one of them, safe John the beloved disciples,
will be called upon to witness to Jesus with their own blood.
And yet all throughout, we see the power and might of God seeing them through.
Beaten and jailed, Paul and Silas find themselves freed;
they even converted the jailer and baptized his entire household.
Once again, the power of the Holy Spirit that Jesus had promised strengthened them.
