followed Jesus.
Levi gave a great feast for Jesus, and many tax collectors came to his house, and took their
places at the table with the other people. Then the Pharisees and their followers complained
to Jesus’ disciples,“How is it that you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?” But Jesus
spoke up, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor, but sick people do. I have not come to call the
just, but sinners, to a change of heart.”
Reflect
During the season of Lent, we are called to renew our baptismal commitment. In baptism, we
share in Christ’s death so that we may likewise share in his resurrection. Renewing that
commitment means a lifelong process of conversion, striving to follow Jesus more closely
and more faithfully each day. But we do not have to do this alone. Jesus is always with us,
helping us to change our hearts. If we turn to God, asking for help to follow Jesus’ path, God
will be with us to refresh us on our way. God will restore us, giving us the rest we need to go on.
We will also have the support of our brothers and sisters in faith. As God’s people, we work together
to live as the Body of Christ, striving to be on in Jesus in whom we were baptized. If we seek to live
in peace and charity with our brothers and sisters, without prejudice or anger, we will share the
Lord’s table at the banquet of heaven.
